HEY! SPECIAL HOLIDAY TREATS
HERE, PEOPLE!!!!
Several years ago, there was a Christmas
Cover Fight. I participated in three entries, alone and with
various other Fighters. Here are the songs. Happy holidays to everyone.

Pretty
Paper |
I learned this years
ago from a Willie Nelson record. I'm not a big fan of Christmas
music in general, but I love this song. |
|
Do
You Hear What I Hear? |
Myself and The Neighbor
team up for another of the few holiday songs I actually like. |
|
Do
They Know It's Christmas? |
Billing ourselves as
The Clanging Chimes Of Doom, bunch of Song Fighters from all
around the country pooled their talents to re-create this modern
classic. |
|
|
After doing the Song
Fight thing for a while, some people decided it would be fun
to do some cover songs. Before long, a spin-off site was born
called Cover Fight. It works essentially the same as Song Fight,
but instead of writing a new song we cover an existing one. Here
are a couple of my covers of other Fighter's songs.

Once upon a time, someone
neglected to cover the John Benjamin Band entry for the first
official "Cover Fight." This prompted an all-JBB Cover
Fight, for which this was my entry. |

Tiny Room |

My cover of Hoblit's
entry for Tiny Room. I always liked his version, but tried to
change the feel of it somewhat in this cover. |

My cover of a song by
fellow fighter Gill Sans. Big Face on bass and backing vocals,
John Benjamin on cello. |

There was a Cover Fight
in memory of George Harrison shortly after his death. This was
my entry. |

Summer Wages |
Stereo

I used to play this
in my bluegrass band, The Southland Ramblers. One of two entries
I submitted to a Summer-themed Cover Fight, this song was the
winner. It was written by Ian Tyson, and I learned it from an
old Tony Rice album. |
|
Summertime Is Past
And Gone |
Stereo
1.5M

This is the second song
I entered in the Summer Cover Fight. It's a Bill Monroe song,
again one the Southland Ramblers used to play. |
|
It's Only Make
Believe |
Stereo

Another song I recorded
for a Cover Fight. Written by Conway Twitty and Jack Nance, this
is one that I remembered from the radio way back when. |
|
Branching Out |
Stereo
3.3M
|
I submitted this cover
of a John Gorka song to a Cover Fight for Children's Songs. It's
not strictly a children's song, but it's one children like to
sing along with. Backing vocals from Cindy "The Neighbor"
Herr, the John Benjamin Band, and of course Frankie Big Face. |
|
Where Does The
Good Times Go? |
Stereo
1.8M
|
I recorded this
Buck Owens tune for the "Are We Not Country" CoverFight.
Participants chose to cover either a Devo song or a pre-1970
country song. |
|
Sing Me Back
Home |
Stereo
4.4M

One day something jogged
my memory and this Merle Haggard song just leapt to the front
of my brain and begged for some attention. It had been years
since I thought of it, but I could remember every word and note. |
|
Blue Eyes Crying
In The Rain |
Stereo
3.5M
|
While I was working
on this website I ran across this track on a CD I had made. I
have no memory of recording it, and yet here it is. This was
written by Fred Rose, and I learned it from Willie Nelson's Red-Headed
Stranger album. |

And last, but
far from least |

I Love Girls

Once upon a time, Hoblit,
whose 'Tiny Room' entry I had recorded for a Cover Fight (see
above), returned the favor with a cover of my 'I Love Girls.'
