After about a 20-year
lapse in my songwriting, friends of mine told me about a website
they found called Song Fight. Each week a title is posted, everyone
writes and records a song for the title, they're posted at the
end of the week, and people can vote on who did the best job
with that title. That got me writing again. Most of these songs
were recorded at fellow Song Fighter Frankie Big Face's ultra-cool
studio, and I thank him for all his efforts on my behalf. Enjoy. |

Just a little
ditty for Song Fight. I mostly wrote it while I was recording.
Pretty fun, but possibly not the most meaningful song you'll
ever hear.... |

I woke up one morning
with this title in my head, and I kicked it around for months
until I finally came up with a song for it. |

My wife, among others,
pointed out to me that my songs tend to be about negative subject
matter, so I made a point to write something positive for a change.
Many thanks to Paul Gallello for playing drums on this for me,
and to Cindy Herr, The (now ex-) Neighbor, for backing vocals. |

Written for Song Fight,
but never submitted due to lack of recording time. I dug it back
out few months ago, got my mom to play dobro and my friend Erin
Rose on fiddle. Here it is. |

An entry for the MeanWhile

some songs I played for restaurant gigs during college. |

I like my
concept on this, but I couldn't get the lyrics like I wanted.
I love the production, though. Big Face arranged it, and sings
backing vocals. |

Originally
envisioned as a biting social statement, the more I worked on
this the goofier it became. My first (and, so far, only) Song

A bit of

regulars at Song Fight commented that no one had ever submitted
a country song, so I did. Big Face on fiddle and bass, Cindy

My first
foray into Song Fight competition, this song came to me almost
fully-formed in my sleep. Too repetitious, but not bad for sleep-writing. |

About once a year,
the Song Fighters like to get together for a "Song Fight
Live" event. The second such event was held in Lancaster.
The show was pretty extensively documented, and you can read/hear/see
all about it at various locations within the "Song Fight
Web Ring." Here are a few recordings of yours truly performing
at the show, backed by Frankie Big Face (the man and the
band). Many thanks to Ben, Paul, and, as always, FBF himself.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU'RE
ABOUT TO HEAR ME MAKE SEVERAL MISTAKES; THEY ARE MY FAULT ENTIRELY
AND ARE NO REFLECTION ON FRANKIE BIG FACE.

In April of
2006, there was a Song Fight gathering in Wayne, PA. I drove
down from NJ to attend. A fun time was had by all. Below is a
recording of my set (one big 29MB file, so beware if you don't
have a broadband connection), and a recording of 'Tiny Room'
featuring Frankie Big Face on banjo and backing vocals.
